Dolce cabled cowl #12

Finally finished and she's a beauty. Cascade Dolce, 4 skeins and a couple of feet of the 5th, at the end of the bind off. Haven't soaked or blocked it, as I want to wear it to work first. Feels a bit itchy. Alpaca does that, but I was hoping the silk content would negate that. I ordered silver, but this looks like the lavender ice color they also had. I bet they switched the color numbers. I did an extra pattern repeat, both in the width, and the length. I have already cast on for another - sailor blue Kathmandu aran.

Racing to the end

This is the not-pink cowl from Vogue Holiday Knits 2009, Cabled Cowl #12. My sister says it's definitely purple, which she means lavendar. It's actually Cascade Dolce in silver, bought on sale online at Webs. The pattern icon shows DK weight yarn, but the first line of instructions says cast on with Aran weight. So, in researching on Ravelry, I cast on an extra 38 stitches to do 5 chart repeats instead of 4. Still 6 inches short of the gauge diameter. I decided to do an extra repeat of the entire 20 row chart repeat to make it deeper, since it was 8 inches short of gauge, that way. Only have about 13 rows to finish this. After chores, dinner, and a little conversation with family, I can get 3 rows done by bedtime. I want to wear this Saturday morning, to a baby brunch shower. I'll be staying up a little late Friday night to finish this. The yarn is gorgeous though. Will post a model shot when I'm done.

2 hats and a cowl

Simple Pleasures hat in blue Cascade 220 and the top, carries a strand of Kidsilk haze in a light blue, with the strand of cascade. A tad too big, but really like it. A cabled cowl in Malabrigo Marine - so soft. A cabled pink balaclava for those really cold feeding horses times, in Cascade 220 pink. A few mistakes on that one. Was watching the Tudors and missed cabling 2 spots in a row. Went too far before noticing, to tink back. Am working on a gorgeous cowl now and almost 2/3rds through.

Stash 2010

I am putting together a stash list, by location. I guess it's the inventory training kicking in. I'm working on a very pink cabled balaclava. I have a $10 fleece one, I'm wearing under a cheap bomber hat, for freeding horses right now. Really needed as the highs are in the single digits and the wind chill is killer. I don't know how I did it, but I missed cabling 2 sections. Really, I do know. The Tudors, season 3. Anyway, it's in the neck section so I doubt if anyone will know but me. Bugs me, though. Casting on with Marine blue Malabrigo for a simple cabled cowl today. I have to make a Felicity, in Vanna's Choice taupe for my sister, and a replacement cables & eyelet hat in charcoal grey cascade 220 for Timbers, as she lost hers. And Mom's reading mitts. Go, knitting, go.

New Year's Day 2010

Sean isn't going to wear this hat, I bet. It's the one I originally knit for Kenny - just like Dad's. Navy Cascade 220 & some of the leftover Kudo. Mels' Thermis is black Cascade 220 and looks very classy. The Dashings are Rowan DK silk wool and feel fabulous. She left them on most of the time she was here. She's really thin, I think, and feels cold constantly. She wore her xmas leopard Snuggie alot. She made most of the Apple cream pie, while I mashed potatos and made the burnt butter mac & cheese. They left pretty early, and didn't eat any pie. Poor them. It was hot & tasty.

More projects

Yet another Turn a Square hat, for Jimmy. Gray/blue Malabrigo Dashings for Timberly. Simple Pleasures khaki Lamb's Pride hat for Bobbi. Still to take: Black silk/merino Dashings for Mel, and a Thermis cowl in black to match. They have not come up to the house to get their presents yet. Working on a Calorimetry in the leftover Malabrigo to match TJ's dashings..... then what? I owe Mom a set of Suzie's reading mitts, and I have 2 shawlettes on the needles - for me.

Mom's hat stage left. Some cascade tweed to match a pair of mittens I gave her a long time ago. Felicity pattern with ribbed edge added. Another Turn a Square made larger, for Sean, but ended up giving it to Kenny. Have 2 sets of Dashings to get pictures of. And made another Square, for Jimmy.
